Born on July 7th 1972, Lisa Deshaun Leslie is a former basketball player. Presently, she is the head coach of Triplets, playing in the BIG3 3-on-3 basketball league. She also works as a studio analyst for Orlando Magic on Fox Sports Florida.
Leslie was named the Sportswoman of The Year in 2001 while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks. She helped them make the playoffs 5 times consecutively.
Leslie became the first woman to dunk a ball in the WNBA games on July 30th 2002. She was also the first woman to score 3,000 points in her career and helped the Sparks win the championship for that season. After 2 seasons, Lisa achieved 4,000 points and was the first woman to do so. She is the leader of Spark’s career scoring and rebounding. Leslie is the 4th highest rebounding leader of all time.
During the same season, Leslie was the third player in the history of WBNA to make a triple-double record, scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks. Additionally, on August 26th 2009, Leslie became the first woman to score 6,000 points in history. Earlier in 2009, she had managed to achieve an outstanding score of 10,000 PRA (Points, Rebounds, Assists) and a statistic fundamental to the WNBA “Pick One Challenge” fantasy game.
On February 4th, 2009, Leslie announced her retirement and was given a farewell by the Sparks during their final home game of the season. During the League’s 20th anniversary, Lisa Leslie was voted in the WNBA Top 20.
Lisa Leslie joined the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team at the age of 17, making her the youngest player in the team. Leslie helped her team win a game against Bulgaria with 22 points and 9 rebounds. She led her team and helped to score, rebound and blocks on an average of 13.3 points, 7.0 rebounds in each game and made a record of 21 blocks throughout the game. As a result, the USA team achieved 7th place.
Leslie was the 2nd lead scorer in the Team USA with 13.0 points on average. She led the team coached by Tara VanDerveer, to a 7-0 victory and received a gold medal.
Leslie won against USA Basketball while being a member of the Jones Cup Team in 1992. She has also appeared in the Olympics and won 4 gold medals. Besides, she also appeared in the United States National Women’s Basketball Team and won 2 gold medals along with a world championship.
Leslie is one of the 7 players to win a gold medal in the Olympics for the Team USA and 1 of 2 players to win 4 gold medals. At the age of 20, Leslie became the youngest player to appear in the USA Olympic Trials in 1992.
