Robert James Turbin is a former American football running back. He started playing football during his college days. When Turbin was selected for his college football team, he played for the Utah State Aggies. Later, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seahawks. After joining the Seahawks, he won Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos. He played for the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and FCF Beasts during his football career.

Community involvement and philanthropy

Turbin founded the Robert Turbin Football Academy in Utah State to promote sports and improve athletic skills in younger generations. Moreover, he also sponsors an annual basketball game in his hometown. The charity basketball game supports his foundation, Runnin4U, which funds research and public awareness for cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis.

Early life

Born in Oakland, California, Turbin started playing football during high school. He played his first match for Irvington High School in Fremont, California. His impeccable performance helped him gain a spot in the league’s Defensive Player of the Year when Turbin was in his senior years.

Turbin’s athletic capabilities were not limited to football; in addition, he showed magnificent performance in basketball and track. In 2009, he was a redshirt sophomore, gaining 1,296 rushing yards, 418 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns. However, Turbin could not play in the 2010 season due to a knee injury.

While playing in the 2011 season, Turbin ran for at least 100 yards in five of six games. His athletic acumen helped him finish the 2011 season with a bang. He was ranked tenth among NCAA FBS players, with an average of 6.1 yards per carry on 1.517 rushing yards. Then he was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in 2012. In his rookie season, Turbin ran for 354 yards on 81 carries.

High school career

As a junior player at Irvington High School in Fremont, California, Turbin led the team to a Mission Valley Athletic League football championship. Moreover, his team played in the NCS Division 3A East Bay Conference Championship under his leadership. However, they could not win the tournament and lost to Las Lomas High. Turbin rushed 143 times for 1,232 yards and 14 touchdowns. Moreover, he had nine receptions for 103 yards, and defensively, he recorded six interceptions.

Professional career

Turbin played for the following teams during his professional football career.

  • Seattle Seahawks
    After Turbin’s selection in the Seattle Seahawks, he and Bobby Wagner became the highest-drafted pair of USU players since 1980. Turbin played as a backup for Marshawn Lynch during his initial days with the Seahawks. He ran for 354 yards on 81 carries during his rookie season.

  • Cleveland Browns
    Turbin joined the Cleveland Browns on 10th September 2015. Before bidding goodbye to the team on 10th November, he played in three games and recorded 18 carries for 60 yards.

  • Dallas Cowboys
    In 2015, Turbin was signed as a free agent for the Dallas Cowboys. He was signed to backup Darren McFadden and replaced former Seahawks teammate Christine Michael.

  • Indianapolis Colts
    In March 2016, Turbin was signed by the Indianapolis Colts. He appeared in 15 games and recorded 164 rushing yards during the 2016 season.

  • Seattle Seahawks (second stint)
    Seattle Seahawks signed Turbin and Marshawn Lynch on 23rd December 2019. They signed these two players as their prominent running backs could not join the tournament because of injuries.

  • FCF Beasts
    Turbin entered an agreement with the FCF Beast on 3rd March 2021. He played for the team in a match against Glacier Boyz. However, his team could not win that game. Turbin played two games and rushed for 15 yards and two touchdowns. Moreover, he caught two passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
